Preparing the Harvest: Faith in Action on Friday Mornings

Before the lines form and before a single bag is handed out on Saturday, something quietly extraordinary is already taking place at Gateway to Hope Ministries. Each Friday morning, a devoted team of volunteers gathers—not for recognition, but to serve.

Boxes of fresh vegetables arrive in bulk, each one carefully inspected. What may seem like simple sorting is, in truth, sacred work. Every good item is preserved, every bag thoughtfully prepared to nourish families throughout our community.

There is purpose in every motion.
There is dignity in every task.
There is love in every hand that serves.

This is where ministry begins. While Saturday brings smiles and gratitude, Friday lays the foundation. It is here that compassion takes shape in the form of tomatoes, potatoes, and greens—quietly preparing the harvest.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

Many who come for food carry burdens far heavier than hunger. Through the faithful work of these volunteers, God’s provision is made ready—not just in sustenance, but in hope.

“If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry… then your light will rise in the darkness…” — Isaiah 58:10

That light is already shining on Friday mornings—in shared laughter, quiet conversation, and the steady rhythm of hands at work. These volunteers are not simply preparing vegetables. They are preparing blessings.

God’s work is often done in unseen moments, by faithful hands serving with humble hearts.
