A touching visit to “Gateway to Hope” at St. Patrick’s…

It’s been and continues to be a fierce battle with cancer. He faced near-fatal hospitalizations. But finally, Wayne G., a beloved figure at Gateway to Hope, felt strong enough to visit last Saturday.

The treatments had been grueling, and there were numerous occasions when he questioned whether he would ever walk through those doors again. However, last Saturday day morning, Wayne discovered the strength within himself and recognized that the time had come.

Despite his concerns about balance, fatigue, and even the thinning of his hair, Wayne approached the ongoing food distribution, which was in full swing at Gateway to Hope.

A silence enveloped the area, soon followed by an overwhelming wave of warmth. Faces turned towards him, illuminated by recognition and joy.

“Wayne? Is that truly you?” Bill Shepard hurried forward, tears welling in his eyes. “It’s me,” Wayne replied, his voice soft and whispery, yet filled with appreciation.

Embraces and handshakes came from all directions. What touched Wayne most was not merely the warm welcome, but the profound realization that throughout his arduous journey, he had never been forgotten. His friends at Gateway to Hope had been steadfast in their prayers, remaining strong even when his own hope, had waned.

Surrounded by the love of God and the heartfelt support of those who kept him in their prayers, Wayne’s visit to Gateway to Hope was indeed a magnificent occasion!
