This Memorial Day, we pause from our daily routines to remember the true meaning of this solemn occasion. Beyond backyard gatherings and store sales lies a sacred purpose: to honor the courageous men and women who laid down their lives in service to our nation.
These heroes came from all walks of life – sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, neighbors and friends. They answered the call to protect freedoms we often take for granted, paying the ultimate price so we might live in peace and security. Their sacrifice echoes through generations, a testament to Christ-like love: “Greater love has no one than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13).
As people of faith, we are called to:
• Remember their names and stories
• Pray for their families who bear the ongoing weight of loss
• Reflect on the cost of our freedoms
• Live in a manner worthy of their sacrifice
This weekend, as you enjoy time with loved ones, we encourage you to:
- Attend a local Memorial Day ceremony
- Visit a veterans cemetery to place flowers or pray
- Observe the National Moment of Remembrance at 3:00 PM
- Share stories of fallen heroes with younger generations
“Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened.” – Billy Graham
May we honor these fallen warriors not just with words, but with how we live – pursuing peace, serving others, and upholding the values they died defending. Let us lift up in prayer all who grieve, and ask God to comfort those who feel this loss most deeply.
**”Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.” (Matthew 5:9)

A National Cemetary like the one at Antietam Sharpsburg, Md. is so striking when you see all the stones have the same dates. What a horrible day both sides had in an attempt to save the values of “home”. The one in Grafton, W.Va. is worth visiting as well. It is where the first man to die in a land battle of the “Civil War” is buried. Thornebury Bailey Brown.
Absolutely, Kevin. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us!
