As an artist from the Kansas City Art Institute, Wayne saw beauty in music, science, and the natural world. He found joy in the rhythm of the ocean, the warmth of a good cup of coffee, and the simple pleasure of ice cream.
Boating and salt water were his sanctuary, and Gateway to Hope — its mission and its people—held a very special place in his heart. Each and every person meant something special to him, and he carried that connection with him always. He called Gateway to Hope in Ocala, Florida, his family.
Wayne faced cancer with the same resilience and courage that defined his life. He was angered by its cruelty, by what it did to his body and to others, yet he never let it steal his spirit. He fought valiantly, knowing in the end that mankind is not in control, but never losing faith in the meaning of life’s journey. We mourn the loss of a cherished member of our team on February 24, 2025, after a valiant struggle against cancer.
Wayne established numerous wonderful connections with individuals in need while assisting in directing traffic during the Saturday morning food distribution and providing 24/7 security at Gateway to Hope and St. Patrick’s He will be deeply missed.
