“Not Your Average Spinach”

Let’s be honest—”duty” isn’t exactly a word that makes people leap out of bed with excitement. It ranks somewhere between folding laundry and cleaning out the garage. Necessary? Yes. Glamorous? Not even close.

And then there’s spinach.

No one has ever walked into a restaurant and exclaimed, “You know what I’m craving today? A giant bowl of plain spinach!” (Well…almost no one.)

But here’s the wonderful thing about God: He has a way of taking ordinary things and making them extraordinary.

A simple act of obedience. A quiet gift. A word of encouragement. A meal shared. A prayer whispered. None of these may seem impressive on their own, but when they’re seasoned with love and offered to Christ, they become something beautiful. Think less “plain spinach” and more “the famous spinach dip everyone crowds around at the church potluck.” Suddenly, everyone wants a taste.

God has always specialized in transforming the ordinary. A shepherd’s staff became an instrument of deliverance. Five loaves and two fish fed thousands. A rough wooden cross became the symbol of our salvation.

So don’t underestimate your “spinach.”

Your faithful giving, your willingness to serve, your quiet acts of kindness, and your consistent obedience may seem small to you, but in God’s hands they nourish His people, strengthen His Church, and bring hope to those who need it most. What feels routine to us often becomes remarkable in His kingdom.

The harvest doesn’t usually come overnight. Seeds take time. Gardens require patience. Even spinach doesn’t grow in a day! But Scripture reminds us that every act of faithfulness matters.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9

So keep planting. Keep serving. Keep giving. And if someone calls you a little like Popeye…well, just smile. Spiritual strength has always come from a healthy diet of faith, love, and a little perseverance.
